Colorizing Film?

I think it would be a neat effect to film something in black and white and then colorize the footage. But the problem is the only way I know of doing this is exporting each individual frame and colorizing it. Does anyone know anyother way of doing this? Or maybe at least achiveing an effect like that? Maybe something with the saturation of the clip or something like that?

the closest thing I could suggest is to try using a tri-tone or duo-tone filter.
I've just got some pluggins for Final Cut Pro,and just started playing with them and they render a pretty cool effect.
I don't know how familiar you are with Duo-tone and Tri-tone stuff,but basically the Tri-tone adds 3 colours to a specific clip you pick the colours you want say Fleshy tone for the mid tone values a blue for shadow and a green for highlight,or what ever.

I'll have a play and upload something for you to look at soon(don't hold your breath as I'm knee deep in other stuff)
